The argument probably isn’t about the dishes.
THE WELL
This weekend, I’m handing the mic over to my wife, Chelsea.
Chelsea Reed Lahey, M.A., LPC Associate, works with adults and couples through Shadow & Light Wellness, with a focus on anxiety, trauma responses, relationship conflict, and emotional shutdown.
Every Saturday, she’ll be sharing a little something from the world of mental wellness here at Atascosa Voices.
No lectures. No pretending we have everything figured out. Just some things worth thinking about.
Welcome to The Well.
And now, I’ll let Chelsea take it from here.
If you and your partner keep having the same fight in different forms, there is usually something happening underneath it.
One person may be thinking, You don’t care about me.
The other may be thinking, Nothing I do is ever good enough.
Once the nervous system reads conflict as a threat, people start protecting themselves.
Some shut down.
Some become defensive.
Others overexplain, pursue, or repeatedly look for reassurance.
Then both people walk away feeling unheard.
I’m Chelsea Reed Lahey, M.A., LPC Associate, and I work with adults and couples through Shadow & Light Wellness. Much of my work focuses on anxiety, trauma responses, relationship conflict, and emotional shutdown.
Therapy is not just about learning how to communicate better.
Sometimes the bigger question is: What happens inside you when conflict begins, and what are you trying to protect?
Understanding that pattern is often where change starts.
Shadow & Light Wellness offers telehealth therapy for adults and couples throughout Texas.
